Today, we all recieved a copy of the ofsted report. They visited us on 21st and 22nd March. The report was excellent and all the staff seem very happy with the result…………….
“The Blyth Jex School is an effective school that provides a satisfactory education for its students. Its specialism in business and enterprise is helping to raise achievement in business studies, mathematics and information and communication technology (ICT), and forge stronger links with its local community. In 2006 it was recognised by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust as one of its most improving schools for that year.”
This week, on Monday, Miss. Bromiley had her class of year 9 English students working together for the TES Newsday. Their task was to create a 12/13 page newspaper. They were in groups and each had their own task, covering global news, entertainment, sport and news from our very own Blyth Jex School. It was posted out at the end of the day, so they get to find out the results shortly. For more info on the Newsday visit www.newsday.co.uk.
The team also created their own podcast on the day which can be heard at blythdailypress.podbean.com.
Prizes were given out to the first, second and third placed acts.
Third was Megan Howett with an amazing rendition of Christina Aguilera’s ‘I Turn To You’. It’s not many people who can pull off one of her songs without fault!
Second was Anis Nkolo with his version of Michael Jackson’s ‘You Are Not Alone’, which was very ambitious considering the song is about 9 minutes long! He blew the judges away and walked away with a prize for his efforts.
First was Steph Wenn who took on an Eminem song for her performance. She delivered her own version of ‘When I’m Gone’ perfectly and left the audience aghast!
A huge congratulations to everyone who took part! It has been months of work and everybody involved has really outdone themselves! Sarah Woods, our Drama teacher was the main organiser of the show. And she has put in a huge amount of time to ensure everything ran smoothly on the night. Just shows what the Blyth Jex students and staff can do when they put their minds to it!
Today, the year 9 students were treated to a performance of ‘The Tempest’ by the Black Cat Theatre Company. The Students are currently studying this Shakespeare play in English so this performance gave them a real feel for the characters.
Here are some photos of the event………….
I finished off all the prefect photos today. Some of which will be appearing on here shortly. At least I think that’s all of them. There may have been some stray students trying to avoid having their picture in the yearbook!
Well, today I had the pleasure of taking some photos of the current year 11 prefects who weren’t entirely up for it! Fortunately a lot of them were saved by the bell and escaped until next week! I was also offered bribes to get some of them out of it! But I will make sure that everyone looks their best in the final pics! Will get some uploaded onto here as soon as possible for everyone to see!
(Sorry guys! – has to be done!)
Don’t think the rest of you are escaping this though! Soon all year 11’s are going to be appearing in their own year book. So they are all going to have a mug shot done shortly!
Today at Blyth Jex, we have no lessons going on as it is academic review day! I’m sure most of the pupils will be enjoying a free day or dreading coming into school with their parents to get told how they’re doing so far this year!
The school always seems quiet when there aren’t hordes or pupils crowding the corridors and today is no exception.
We do have a few students in though, catching up on their coursework as the time is slowly running out to get it done! March already! That’s come around fast for most people I’m sure!
Good luck to all those coming in to see their form tutors today, hope you all get some positive feedback!
