This week, on Monday, Miss. Bromiley had her class of year 9 English students working together for the TES Newsday. Their task was to create a 12/13 page newspaper. They were in groups and each had their own task, covering global news, entertainment, sport and news from our very own Blyth Jex School. It was posted out at the end of the day, so they get to find out the results shortly. For more info on the Newsday visit

The team also created their own podcast on the day which can be heard at

Today, the year 9 students were treated to a performance of ‘The Tempest’ by the Black Cat Theatre Company. The Students are currently studying this Shakespeare play in English so this performance gave them a real feel for the characters.

Here are some photos of the event………….

The author Robert Rigby paid a visit to the School to talk to the English students about his work. He has written the titles ‘goal’, and ‘ Boy Soldier’ among others.

The students were receptive to hearing about his life, and how he had become such a successful author (probably because they knew he had met David Beckham!).

He signed some books for the pupils at the end of the presentation and the students had a chance to ask him some questions about his work.
