Today, we all recieved a copy of the ofsted report. They visited us on 21st and 22nd March. The report was excellent and all the staff seem very happy with the result…………….

“The Blyth Jex School is an effective school that provides a satisfactory education for its students. Its specialism in business and enterprise is helping to raise achievement in business studies, mathematics and information and communication technology (ICT), and forge stronger links with its local community. In 2006 it was recognised by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust as one of its most improving schools for that year.”

Today continued the enterprise activities put on for all year 8 students. They were in teams and were given projects where they had to design and piece together a new product. The whole day was really successful, as everyone was really enthusiastic and all got stuck in! The two day event was in aid to promote the idea of being innovative in business and what it takes to be an entrepreneur. I think it definately got a few students dreaming of one day having Richard Bransons millions!

Today and tomorrow, we have a business and enterprise event going on for the year 8s. Today they have had a speaker from the young persons enterprise chat to them about what it means to be enterprising. Which you can get more information about at

Tomorrow they will be getting more involved when they have some speakers from local businesses come in to chat to them. They will also be given the opportunity to build models and carry out group tasks that will help them learn more about business. This will hopefully inspire our younger students to think about what they can create in the future and how they can make an impact on the business world!

This week, on Monday, Miss. Bromiley had her class of year 9 English students working together for the TES Newsday. Their task was to create a 12/13 page newspaper. They were in groups and each had their own task, covering global news, entertainment, sport and news from our very own Blyth Jex School. It was posted out at the end of the day, so they get to find out the results shortly. For more info on the Newsday visit

The team also created their own podcast on the day which can be heard at

The Final Performance of the Blyth Je’X’ Factor was on Friday night! All of the acts were outstanding!

Prizes were given out to the first, second and third placed acts.

Third was Megan Howett with an amazing rendition of Christina Aguilera’s ‘I Turn To You’. It’s not many people who can pull off one of her songs without fault!

Second was Anis Nkolo with his version of Michael Jackson’s ‘You Are Not Alone’, which was very ambitious considering the song is about 9 minutes long! He blew the judges away and walked away with a prize for his efforts.

First was Steph Wenn who took on an Eminem song for her performance. She delivered her own version of ‘When I’m Gone’ perfectly and left the audience aghast!

A huge congratulations to everyone who took part! It has been months of work and everybody involved has really outdone themselves! Sarah Woods, our Drama teacher was the main organiser of the show. And she has put in a huge amount of time to ensure everything ran smoothly on the night. Just shows what the Blyth Jex students and staff can do when they put their minds to it!

Today, the year 9 students were treated to a performance of ‘The Tempest’ by the Black Cat Theatre Company. The Students are currently studying this Shakespeare play in English so this performance gave them a real feel for the characters.

Here are some photos of the event………….

The photos from the Paris trip have made their way to the network, where I have sneaked a few to post on here. It looks like everyone had a good time.

I finished off all the prefect photos today. Some of which will be appearing on here shortly. At least I think that’s all of them. There may have been some stray students trying to avoid having their picture in the yearbook!

Many of our pupils have just got back from a short trip to Paris for business studies! I will be talking to all students and staff involved and getting all the gossip and photos to post on here very soon…….
